The Flight
Came boarding day and thoughts were racing through my head. I had said my farewells to my family members, friends and girlfriend. It’s hard to say goodbye when you are uncertain of what lies ahead. Still uncertain, I had gone through the check in at the airport. I took the security check point in a slow manner, slower than I do usually, feeling like every step was taking me a little further away from what I have come to love and cherish. Giving it some effort I put on a smile for my parents, it takes a lot of will power for them also to let their last son leave the island. We boarded the plane and waited on the pilot to say how we were clear for lift off. The flight would take three hours and thirty minutes, not a very long time. I could see the island shrinking and getting farther away as we took altitude. The cabin seemed to increase in humidity and pressure, I would feel uncomfortable, but I would smile to my parents giving them the comfort I desperately needed. I tried to sleep but it seemed impossible with all the worries that I had and the tightening grasp that somebody seemed to have at my throat. For the rest of the flight I looked out the window and thought about how this was supposed to be good for me and how others have gone out of the island before without any complications.
